The Ancient Historical Village |
||
Over 80,000 tourists travel through Ohio every season, many interested in the history and lifestyle of the
original people who populated America. After the destructive influences of the predominant European cultures,
few remnants of the original lifestyle have been maintained with integrity. The Ancient Historical Village
offers tourists samplings of social life, government operation, healing practices, recreation, arts and crafts,
and cuisine. The Village is an important stop for vacationers, history buffs and those who are simply curious
to explore and experience earlier, simpler times. |
||
The Village features a series of structures dating from the earliest stone shelters to the more familiar log cabins. We follow man’s development of culture and society personified in the various living structures that he inhabited. In addition to stone dwellings, stick homes, wigwams and the log cabins, there is also a Dance Plaza where social and ceremonial events take place, a Seven-Sided Council House which seated the government function and where people gathered for community events, the Moon Lodge and the Sacred Rock Lodges where healing occurred, as well as the Smoke House and the Summer Kitchen where delicious foods were prepared. |
||
The unique feature of the Ancient Historical Village will be the participation and interaction provided, along with teachings of the traditional ways of life. |
||
Guides not only lead tours through these buildings, but also teach and demonstrate the various aspects of ancient life. Tourists have the opportunity
to participate in activities occurring and thus be able to “step” back in time and become part of the community. Arts and crafts, clothing and food are available for purchase to enhance the experience and to give each person the ability to take with them memorabilia to preserve the magical nature of their experience. |
